Robert Foster Ranch is owned and operated by Bob and Nancy Foster, and their two children Mark and Holly. The ranch was begun by Robert M. Foster who came to California as a teenager in the 1870s from Maine and homesteaded near Oroville, Calif. The family still operates on that original homestead property and has expanded the ranch to include summer grazing property in Taylorsville, Calif.
Robert Foster Ranch runs an Angus-based cowherd and targets several natural beef programs as part of their marketing efforts. The Fosters also do some direct beef sales on a local basis. The family is committed to preserving the legacy of open space and working landscapes that their operation represents. In 2000, Robert Foster Ranch was recognized by the California Heritage Club and the California State Fair as an agricultural business that has been in continuous operation for more than 100 years.
The fifth generation is well on its way, with grandson Adam Nelms, who is a student at California State University, Chico majoring in agriculture, and Mark and Brigitte Foster’s two sons, Sheldon (4 years) and Sawyer (1 year) already showing an interest in raising cattle.
