Certification Compliance Manager

WFCF Division: WFCF Organic

The Compliance Manager serves as the primary contact between the National Organic Program (NOP), Canadian Organic Regime (COR) and Where Food Comes From Organic. This position is responsible for tracking, monitoring and implementing new policy or procedures efficiently maintain compliance.  The ideal candidate will have experience in organic compliance technical reviews, be confident to make compliance determinations using applicable resources and be knowledgeable of accreditation requirements. This position will not directly manage staff members but will serve as a part of the management team in a lead capacity with certification and policy decision making authority. The ideal candidate will be passionate about continuous improvement and helping build compliance structure and culture at WFCF Organic.

 

This position will report directly to the Director of the WFCF Organic Division.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Works in conjunction with the Workflow Manager to identify technical training needs to meet workflow requirements and improve team compliance for NOP and COR accreditation.

  • Execute training programs to staff monthly, quarterly, or annually as needed by technical reviewers.

  • Develop and implement strategies to regularly educate and inform clients and staff on NOP/COR regulations and WFCFO policy.

  • Key lead in responding to regulatory agencies and responsible for overseeing NOP/COR/ISO17065 accreditation with relevant accreditation bodies – coordinates with Workflow Manager to assign tasks to team members in response to investigations, mediation, proposed adverse actions and notices of noncompliance to certifying agencies.

  • Oversee NOP investigations, mediation, adverse actions, reinstatements and appeals.

  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of WFCFO certification policies and procedures to maintain NOP compliance.

  • Performs internal audits to ensure WFCFO policies and procedure are correctly implemented and adhered to by technical staff.

  • Oversee, review, and sign off on client major nonconformances written by technical staff.

  • Serves as in-house lead for compliance decision making. Expected to consider/use team technical staff expertise and applicable resources to make final decisions on compliance actions/decisions implemented by WFCFO for particular cases.

  • Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of the organic certification process, ability to conduct product label, material input review and post-inspection compliance reviews.

  • Regularly reporting on metrics for sampling and unannounced inspections.

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in applicable field and/or 10 years related experience.

  • Knowledge of NOP, COR and ISO/IEC 17065 and all documents related to certification.

  • Excellent leader and encouraging to team and staff.

  • Exceptional communication skills and heightened attention to detail.

  • Strong sense of urgency towards customer service and task management.

  • Ability to multi-task and manage priorities effectively and efficiently with competing deadlines.

  • Must have a positive, solution-oriented attitude and be a team player.

  • Able to analyze problems and strategize for better solutions.

  • Ability to solve problems and make decisions under pressure.

  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office.

  • Experience coordinating large, diverse sets of people to accomplish tasks.

  • Experience in regulatory environments.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • IOIA Organic Crop Inspector training or equivalent experience working for organic certification body.

  • Experience performing organic inspections or similar audits.

  • Practical field experience in agriculture, food science, or food production, preferably organics.

  • Experience in regulatory environments.

  • Ability or experience in training program development and implementation.

  • Experience working as an inspection’s coordinator for organic certifier.

  • Experience working in SalesForce or similar database.
