Customer Verification Specialist – CPG (Consumer-Packaged Goods)

The Customer Verification Specialist serves as the primary contact between Where Food Comes From, Inc. and our Consumer-Packaged Goods clients. This position focuses on assessing and determining compliance of the operation’s CPG system plan with CPG regulations.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the first line of superior customer service for key accounts in the CPG client portfolio.

  • Specialize in assisting clients seeking Non-GMO Project Verification, Gluten-Free, Certified Organic and other common ingredient-level programs and standards.

  • Communicates with clients to provide written and verbal instructions regarding compliance to all applicable standards.

  • Assist customers in preparing for desk and/or onsite evaluations.

  • Communicate with onsite inspectors for upcoming, current, and past audits.

  • Technical review for compliance for various standards where appropriate.

  • Follow up with and assist customers with corrective actions if necessary.

  • Compile audit findings into audit reports within timeline standards.

  • Issue approval certificates and/or letters of compliance.

  • Collect and report customer feedback.  Assist with strategy on solutions if applicable.

  • Assist with the development of certification policies and procedures, guidance documents and certification forms in conjunction with the Manager to maintain efficient workflow, adopt industry best practices and identify key areas for continuous process improvement.

  • Works on special projects as assigned by the Manager. 

  • Assist with onsite inspections by completing the verification checklist and submitting all relevant information to applicable internal teams within established timelines.

  • Perform any other responsibilities as needed.


Required Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, crop science, food science, animal science, biosystems, supply chain, sustainability, agroecology, or other applicable field and/or 5 years of experience

  • 2 years of customer service experience

  • Highly detail-oriented and self-motivated

  • Teamwork attitude with a strong aptitude for professionalism and courtesy

  • Ability to process a high volume of data in a productive and quality driven manner with a strong sense of urgency

  • Ability to keep accurate records, prepare and manage files, reports, letters, and billing

  • Strong Microsoft Office and computer skills required

  • Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing with internal/external staff, vendors, and clients

  • Maintains alignment with Where Food Comes From, Inc.’s Mission, Purpose, and Values

  • Flexibility, focus and resilience in the face of high workload and competing demands

  • Maintain confidentiality

  • Discipline in following defined processes

  • Self-motivated with a desire for continuous learning

 

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Organic Certification and/or Non-GMO Project Verification experience (or similar)

  • Ingredient and product formulation experience

  • Food and/or feed processing/manufacturing facility experience

  • Experience in industries with agriculture, agri-food systems, sustainability, and/or food, beverage, CPG certifications is a plus

  • Possess a problem solving and solution-oriented approach coupled with a client focused mindset

 

Physical Requirements

  • Able to use standard computer keyboard on a frequent basis.

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer.

  • Frequent use of hands to operate office equipment, including computers and phones.

  • Visual acuity to read detailed data on a computer screen.

  • none

 

Working Conditions: 

  • Castle Rock, CO office

  • Some travel required (~5%)
