The Contract Dairy Auditor will conduct onsite third-party audits of Validus customers to evaluate compliance, review corrective actions, and submit their audit reports for review and certification.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Verifiers will be trained on program requirements and participate in ongoing training, knowledge sharing and process improvements
The core verification process includes: coordinating verifications internally with the Validus office and customer, preparing for onsite verifications, conducting verifications, completing the verification checklist and submitting all relevant information to applicable internal teams within established timelines
Review customer operations against CARE certified programs
Ensure client records are thoroughly maintained
Book travel, hotel, and transportation according to company policy and submit applicable expense reports for reimbursement
Use applicable checklists, forms and technology such as an iPad or tablet for gathering information for the audits
Adhere to all of the customer’s quality and code of conduct standards including but not limited to: Biosecurity, SQF (Safe Quality Food), and GMP (General Manufacturing Practices)
Maintain professionalism and positive customer relationships and respond to all client inquiries and concerns. Elevate concerns or questions to the Validus office
Attend required trainings, internally and externally, to maintain qualifications to conduct audits and knowledge of applicable regulations and standards
Must be in located in the United States

Required Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in agriculture and 5 years of experience in the dairy industry, 15 years of experience in the dairy industry, OR a doctorate in veterinary medicine or similar doctoral degree
HACCP experience and training required: training will be provided on HACCP audits
Previous GMP and food safety experience
Third-party certification process experience required
Extensive knowledge of agricultural systems, with a primary focus in feed mills and food manufacturing
Independent and free of conflict of interest
Driver’s license or ability to obtain rental vehicle and travel to each location
Fair-minded and able to maintain an objective approach at all times
Strong critical thinking skills
Excellent organization and attention to detail
Strong aptitude for professionalism and confidentiality
Exceptional communication skills and heightened attention to detail
Strong sense of urgency towards customer service and task management

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Preferred Skills:
Completion of Professional Animal Auditor Certification Organization (PAACO) Dairy Welfare Auditor training
SQF experience
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office with the willingness to learn proprietary IT systems – hardware, software and mobile applications
Additional working knowledge and experience in any of the following categories is a plus and will be weighted heavily in preference: beef, swine, crops, and/or feed productions systems
Practical field experience in agriculture, food science, or food production
Working Conditions:
Independent contract position: pay is based on duration of audit and ranges from $300.00-580.00
Remote with 100% travel as the schedule dictates, mostly overnight
Processing and feed mill equipment in facilities
Pesticide and other chemical storage facilities
Temperature extremes of high heat or cold, including indoors and outdoors
