Senior Developer

The Senior Developer will be responsible for overseeing the creation, implementation, and management of information systems, databases and technology projects including product development and technical support.

Roles and Responsibilities:  

  • Direct design/development, coding, testing, debugging, implementation, deployment and documentation of software products  

  • Review and analyze code work regularly for accuracy and functionality 

  • Build modular, scalable and testable applications in order to grow traceability & organic products  

  • Create back-end functionality to support front-end development  

  • Implement responsive web designs 

  • Develop and maintain new frontends that leverage existing APIs 

  • Meet with clients to determine and define software needs and ensure products meet and support requirements 

  • Develop and ensure long and short-term objectives for software engineering functions maximize revenues and meet customer needs 

  • Assure engineering is coordinated with sales and support to deliver product on time and within scope 

  • Evaluate development tools for applicability of technology to software products 

  • Adapt software to integrate with third-party products that enhance the overall value of the product offerings 

  • Keep abreast of California and US Pesticide regulations, and legal requirements for commodities supported by the software 

  • Remain informed of competitors’ products and services 

  • Keep up with sustainable agricultural techniques and technology changes in this space and leverage them when appropriate 

  • Maintain confidentiality and protect internal and external information  

  • Other duties as assigned  

Required Skills & Experience:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline AND at least 8 years of progressively responsible software design experience 

  • In-depth knowledge of JavaScript ES6+, Microsoft .NET & Microsoft SQL, Visual Basic, SQL, ADO, Crystal and general programming techniques and must know how to relate software and services to agricultural production, precision farming and overall farm management 

  • Database management experience with Microsoft Azure 

  • Understanding of  

    • Adaptive and Responsive Web Design Techniques 

    • HTML, CSS, and layout of web pages & applications 

    • User-interface prototyping tools (InVision, Zeppelin, etc.) 

    • SQL and Database software (PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, etc.) 

    • .NET Framework (C# and VBScript) 

    • Amazon Web Services 

    • React with Redux or other JavaScript Framework and/or server-side development experience in Node.js 

  • Ability to operate effectively within short dev cycles using Agile methodologies 

  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint) 

  • Technical competent in understanding complex problems, think strategically and identify sustainable solutions 

  • Highly detail-oriented and self-motivated 

  • Teamwork attitude with a strong aptitude for professionalism and courtesy 

  • Ability to process a high volume of data in a productive and quality driven manner with a strong sense of urgency 

  • Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing with internal/external staff, vendors, and clients 

  • Flexibility, focus and resilience in the face of high workload and competing demands 

  • Evidence of the ability to practice a high level of confidentiality 

Preferred Skills & Experience:  

  • We understand that each candidate has a unique background and experience. The following qualifications are not required but can strengthen the candidacy for applicants.  Experience with: 

    • Knowledge of agricultural production, precision farming and farm management 

    • Some knowledge of the food and wine industry 

    • SMIS Product 

    • Sow Organic 

    • FMIS System 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Able to use standard computer keyboard on a frequent basis 

  • Able to walk up and down stairs and to sit for up to 8 hours 

  • Able to hear normal conversations on the phone and in person 

  • Able to see and read agreements and correspondence 

  • Able to lift and carry up to 35 pounds 

  • Bi-manual dexterity

  • Monday-Friday  

  • Some travel required (~10%)
